Discover the breathtaking beauty of Iceland. Start by exploring the pristine highlands of Iceland during a multi-day hike along the Laugavegur trail. Then, for a week, you'll travel around as a duo in a 4X4 with a rooftop tent and discover the must-see attractions all over the island.

The Trail

The Laugavegur Route is one of the most beautiful "must-do" hiking trails worldwide. The reasons for this are obvious: from the first step on this legendary trek, you will feel like you're on a different planet. You encounter one unknown natural phenomenon after another, all combined with stunning panoramas.

During a guided 5-day tour, you hike from shelter to shelter with a tent, where there are always sanitary facilities. Some shelters are located near hot springs where you can relax after a long hike.

The Roadtrip

In 7 days, you will drive along one of the most iconic roads in the world: the Icelandic Ring Road. When you go on an adventure with us, you are completely independent. We have planned a route for you that not only takes you to the highlights of the island, but also to some hidden spots we discovered through the locals. Occasionally, you even deviate from the beaten path.

At the beginning of your journey, we provide you with a navigation system with all the routes and a comprehensive roadbook that contains useful information for your adventure.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

This combination trip can only be booked as a duo on specific dates. During the first week, you will hike through the Icelandic highlands for a week under the guidance of professional guides. After that, as a duo, you will explore the rest of Iceland with your own 4x4.

FAQs

You can find almost all the information regarding both parts of the journey on the respective websites of The Iceland Trail and Nordic Nomads Iceland. You can also send us an email for additional information. If you would like more information about the Trail, please email info@theicelandtrail.com, and if you would like more information about the Roadtrip, please email info@nordicnomads.org.

Below you will find answers to some frequently asked questions.

Where will I sleep after the trail and before the road trip?

Your trip includes 5 nights with The Iceland Trail and 7 nights with Nordic Nomads. Between both trips, you will stay at a campsite right next to our basecamp. Your first night in Iceland (before starting the trail) will be spent at a location of your choice.

Would you prefer to stay in the center of Reykjavík?
No problem! All you have to do is book a hotel room of your choice and take a taxi to the basecamp the day after your stay for the start of your road trip.

How does the payment process work?
Upon registration, you will be asked to pay 40% of the total travel costs within 10 days. If this deadline is not met, unfortunately, the registration will be automatically canceled. The remaining amount must be paid 60 days before departure at the latest; installment payments are currently not possible. Additionally, shortly before departure, you will also need to pay a security deposit, the amount of which depends on the chosen car insurance. When making changes to your options, the system will automatically adjust the 40% based on the total amount. There are various online payment methods available. If the payment fails, it is likely that there was an error in entering the payment or an incorrect reference number.
I don't want flights, but I would like to book a shuttle through you. Is that possible?

The shuttle between the airport and the basecamp is free for everyone who booked their flights through us. Haven't booked your flights through us? You can still use the shuttle by selecting the option during the booking process.

Just to let you know: a spot on the shuttle costs €35 per person per ride. The outbound shuttle departs from the airport at 4:30 PM, and the return shuttle departs from the basecamp at 4:30 AM.

Is it possible to shorten the hike and extend the road trip?
Both trips are coordinated with each other and therefore it is unfortunately not possible to adjust their duration. Here is an illustration of what the combined trip will look like:
  • On the first Monday, you will fly to Iceland and arrive in the afternoon at the basecamp where you will receive equipment and trail instructions from our guides on site. In the evening, you have the choice to sleep in a hotel or at a campsite.
  • On the following day, you will depart at sunrise to start the 5-day hike on Laugavegur.
  • You will arrive in Reykjavík on the first Sunday, where you can return the equipment before exploring the city. Afterwards, you will sleep at the basecamp (or in a hotel room if you have booked one yourself).
  • On the second Monday, in the late afternoon, you will depart on a road trip after an extensive briefing by our rangers on site.
  • You will arrive at the basecamp on the second Sunday in the early evening, where the check-out will take place.
  • On the third Monday, at 4:30 AM, you will take a shuttle to the airport and then fly back home.
Can I leave a suitcase at the basecamp during my week on the trail?

This is possible but at your own risk. The basecamp is a hostel that can also be booked by individuals who are not part of the trip.

I can't go anymore, what now?
