FAQ

Here are some of our frequently asked questions. If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to send us an email.

How does the payment process work?

During registration, you will be asked to pay 35% of the total travel cost within 10 days. If this deadline is not met, unfortunately, the registration will be automatically canceled. The remaining amount must be paid no later than 45 days before departure; installment payments are currently not available. Additionally, shortly before departure, you will also need to pay a deposit, the amount of which depends on the car insurance option you have chosen. When making changes to your options, the system will automatically adjust the 35% based on the total amount.

There are various online payment methods available. If the payment fails, it is likely that there was an error in entering the payment or an incorrect reference number.

Where and when do we pick up our car? What is happening here?

The pick-up of your vehicle will take place at the basecamp, which is located 20-25 minutes from Bergen Airport. You will receive the exact address of the basecamp 20 days before departure. The keys of the vehicle will be collected between 11:30 AM and 5:30 PM. A member of the Nomads team will be waiting for you at the basecamp to provide you with all the necessary information and physically hand you the roadbook with all the tips & tricks you need for this wonderful adventure! If you are arriving independently, we recommend arriving at 11:30 AM so that you can start your road trip right away.

On the 8th day, you must return the vehicle by 10 AM to the same place where you started.

Will the ranger accompany us? Am I required to follow the route?

With Nomads, you travel independently but receive support from local rangers and may encounter other Nomads along the way. So, you're on your own and decide which route to take, but you still have a local contact person whose role is to welcome you, remind you of important things during your journey, and assist you if you encounter any issues. In the evenings, you meet other Nomads at the campsites we have reserved for you.

How old do I have to be to drive a car?

To be able to rent a car, you must be at least 21 years old and have held a valid driver's license for at least two years.

What is the superflex booking option?
With the Superflex booking option, you can move your trip within the same year based on availability or cancel free of charge (including flights) until April 1, 2024. This option is available for free to those who booked in the first few weeks.
What does the food pack consist of? Is there a gluten-free option available?
The food package consists of freeze-dried food packets and a selection of easy-to-prepare meals, along with some recipes and tips for meal preparation. You'll find canned goods, snacks, and other easy-to-prepare treats, so you can cook quickly and easily even if you're in the middle of nowhere. We plan for 3 meals per day for a period of 7 days. There is a vegetarian version and a non-vegetarian version available. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate gluten intolerances or other intolerances and allergies.
We are more than 2 people, can I reserve an additional vehicle?

Our road trip is primarily focused on duos and trios. However, due to high demand from duos, there is only one vehicle available for trios per departure. Unfortunately, traveling with 4 people is not possible due to logistical decisions. With the equipment we provide and your personal belongings, there simply isn't enough space in the car for a fourth person.

How can we register as a duo?
If you want to register as a duo, you just need to open the registration form and fill in the details of both team members.

How can we register as a trio?
The registration form also allows for trio registrations. However, since we only have one vehicle available for a trio per departure, it's first come, first served. If you are unable to proceed in the registration form at the time of your registration, it means that the vehicle has already been reserved by another group. We recommend trying again on a different date or contacting us via email.

What about the equipment if there are three of us?

When there are three of you, you will receive a rooftop tent suitable for 2 people and an additional ground tent. You will be provided with a total of 3 sleeping bags, 3 pillows, 3 mattresses, 3 plates, and so on.

How can we register as a group of 4?
If you want to travel with 4 adults, you need to book 2 vehicles under different names. It is not possible to reserve 2 vehicles under the same name. If you make a reservation under a name that is already in our system, there is a risk that both reservations will be automatically canceled. Therefore, make sure you have the details of all individuals and that each duo makes their own reservation to avoid any issues.

What about the car insurance?

Going on vacation by car is wonderful! However, it can also become tricky if you are not properly insured. Accidents can happen quickly, which is why we recommend insuring your car.

Here is an overview of all insurance options: the insurance options.

In addition, you will also have to pay a deposit shortly before departure.

I can't go anymore, what now?

If you can't go anymore, be sure to check our cancellation policy.

What exactly is written in the roadbook?

The roadbook contains all the information for a successful visit to Norway. On one hand, you will find the complete route mapped out. You will pass by the famous landmarks of Norway, but we will also guide you to lesser-known places where you will be almost alone, and which are not yet marked on most tourist guides.

In addition, we also provide unique addresses where you can have a drink or a meal in the evenings. You will also find useful information about supermarkets and interesting shops.

And finally, the roadbook includes the contact details of our partners who offer additional activities along the route!

Give back to nature: CO2 compensation for your trip!

The planet gives us so much beauty to admire, but if we want to continue enjoying it for a long time, we need to protect it more than ever today. In the booking form, you can easily and reliably offset the CO2 emissions of your trip through Greentripper.

With your contribution, Greentripper will plant enough trees to convert the equivalent of your CO2 emissions into oxygen.

Discover here everything about the efforts that Travelbase makes!

We would like to come with our children, is that possible?

It is possible to travel with your children, as long as you do not exceed the limit of 3 per car.

From experience, we know that with luggage and the equipment we provide (cooking set, table, stools, sleeping bags, etc.), it is not comfortable to travel with 2 adults and three children in one car.

For younger children, we suggest that they sleep in the rooftop tent between their parents. For children older than 8 years, we will provide an additional ground tent.

How do we make a reservation?

Please contact us in advance for this type of reservation.

When is the best time to go? What should I bring?

We organize Nordic Nomads in Norway between June and September. Depending on when you go, the nature of the trip won't be exactly the same.

The months of June to September are ideal for visiting Norway. Thanks to its location close to the Arctic Circle, you can enjoy long sunny days during the summer.

For those dreaming of seeing the Northern Lights, it's a different story. Late August and September are the most suitable. In terms of daylight, the days start getting shorter from mid-August. However, this will have little impact on your road trip.

In the summer, the weather conditions are generally good, with an average temperature of 17 degrees in Norway.

We will send you a complete packing list with everything you should definitely bring, no later than one month before departure. In general, we recommend bringing waterproof clothing, good hiking shoes, and extra layers of clothing.

Are there any additional costs?
  • Gasoline: for a distance of approximately 1500 km, you will pay about €350. Of course, the price depends on the number of kilometers driven and the fuel prices at the time of the trip.
  • Food and drinks (if you don't choose our food pack option)
Can my dog accompany me to Norway?

Your four-legged friend is welcome! As long as you take the following agreements into account:

  • Not allowed in the rooftop tent
  • Avoid bringing your dog into the car when wet
  • Always keep your dog on a leash

In addition, it is your responsibility to ensure that your dog meets the necessary requirements to enter Norway.

What kind of car will we be driving? Manual or automatic transmission?

All cars are SUV models that are very user-friendly. No specific experience is required to drive our 4x4s. We have carefully selected the most suitable cars for the road trip! Some of our cars are manual transmission, while others are automatic. We cannot guarantee which type of vehicle you will get. So, you should be able to drive both types of vehicles.
